About us

Who are we and what motivates us?

Our Story

On January 10th 2007 our beautiful daughter Naomi Cheri Gough lost her life due to a road traffic collision in Halifax.

Naomi had recently celebrated her 19th Birthday before this tragic event. To say our lives were destroyed on this day, is an understatement. We were a family of five and now all our dreams were shattered. After the initial shock, we had to try rebuilding and re direct our lives without Naomi. However, we still needed her to be part of it.

To lose a child/dependant under the age of 25 years, is unimaginable. Quite often insurance is not in place for the sudden and unexpected expense. We help lift that burden by giving financial support.

We were not prepared for Naomi’s untimely passing or the financial burden that comes with the tragic loss. It was with the help of family, friends, students and the local community, that we were able to give Naomi a most fitting funeral. We will never be able to pay for her wedding day.

Naomi was a bright, happy, caring and beautiful young woman, who was full of fun and had a fantastic sense of humour. She loved her brother Shane and sister Rochelle, also her friends and she was always there to help them in time of a crisis. Someone they could always turn to for support and advice. She always went out of her way to help others. Naomi would not stand by and see someone struggle in anyway and always stepped in and offered her help regardless of who or how old they were.

We wanted to keep this beautiful legacy of Naomi’s alive and help others in need. So with this in mind, in 2007 we founded the Naomi Cheri Gough Memorial Fund. We worked alongside another charity up until 2016 and then decided to set up our own registered charity Naomi Cheri Gough Foundation.

OUR APPROACH

Highlighting the Consequences of Irresponsible Driving

We are a small registered charity based in the Brighouse area near Halifax. We presently run the charity from our home. We have very little overheads to pay out, enabling most of the money raised to be used for the two sole purpose of our Foundation;

Educating in schools and businesses on the ‘Consequences of Irresponsible Driving’ and supporting families both emotionally and financially, helping parents and guardians during a most difficult and tragic time in their lives.

There are presently 5 of us running the charity. Chairman Steve Gough, Trustee’s Bev Gough, Sarah King, Alan Horsfield and Graham Holgate. There is a small group of people who help us outside the circle of trustees that help and support us in various ways.

01.

— We Educate

We deliver a hard hitting, powerful yet moving presentation “Life Sentence” to future drivers about the consequences of irresponsible driving.

02.

— We Support

We help parents & guardians with the financial cost of their child’s funeral whose life has been taken on the roads of West Yorkshire due to a Road Traffic Incident.

03.

— We Fundraise

Our fundraising events include raffles, family fun days, charity dinners and our annual “Walk4Naomi”, a 3 day trek from Halifax to Blackpool.
