ANNUAL WALK4NAOMI – HALIFAX to BLACKPOOL 2020
On Wednesday 5th August 2020 sixteen of us will be setting off on our annual Walk4Naomi. This will be our 13th time. This is an extremely tough challenge and the fittest of people who regularly attend gyms and play contact sports have admitted that they’ve struggled. However the support and camaraderie amongst both the support team and those that participate in the walk keeps everyone moral high. Not everyone, in fact most people taking part are not keep fit people and take part simply to help raise funds for our much needed charity.
All ages take part in the walk our eldest and legend now being 85 years young, Peter Latreche; who has participated in the Walk4Naomi 4 times now,. We are hoping that he can join us this year and make his 5th. He is an absolute inspiration to all the others who take part, and to the regulars he is known as our legend or grandad. He is an extremely highly thought of member of the Walk4Naomi family and has a great sense of humour, he is always laughing and smiling; he is an amazingly fit man for his young age who helps to motivate others on this very difficult journey.
We walk approximately 20 miles per day, camping for two nights in designated camping sites in Burnley and with the help in Samlesbury; where both sites allow us to use their facilities for the night, to freshen up, eat and relax with a few well earned cold beers and sleep for the night in our tents before setting off after breakfast on the following mornings. During the day we make pit stops at regular places and get lunch. We generally end our day by 6pm all arriving at the campsites at different intervals as we all have our own pace of walking.
We generally complete the walk by 4 pm on the third day. Then all head to the Carousel Hotel in Blackpool where we are greatly looked after by the staff. We have stayed in the hotel for the last 6 years now and they’ve now kindly began raising money for us through raffles with their guests.
If you are lucky enough to drive past us all please give a toot of encouragement and if you would like to donate, we have collection tins, alternatively, you can support the Walk by making a donation on this website.
